How to Make Homemade Baby Food Peas
When your baby starts to eat solid food, peas are a good choice to add to her diet. Full of protein, calcium, vitamins A and C and iron, peas are both tasty and nutritious. When you prepare them properly, peas take on a creamy consistency, perfect for little mouths and tummies. Because peas have a skin that separates from the vegetable when you cook them, straining to remove the skins will make them more digestible. With basic kitchen items and a little time, you can make baby food peas for your child in your own kitchen.
Shell and wash fresh peas thoroughly in cold running water, or remove a measure of peas from the freezer.
Place the peas in the cooking pot with just enough water to cover them. Bring the peas to a boil. Cover the pot with the lid.
Cook the peas until they are tender. Remove the peas from the boiling water, and place them in the bowl of cod water to stop the cooking process.
Remove the peas from the cold water. Place the peas in a food processor, and puree them until they are smooth.
Place the pureed peas in the strainer. Mash the peas through the strainer with the back of the spoon to remove any remaining bits of pea skin.
Rub a little of the mashed peas between your fingers to judge the consistency. Add more water to thin the puree out, if necessary.
When feeding your baby heated food, always test it first to ensure it is not too hot.
