How to Bake Apples for a Baby

Apples contain soluble and insoluble fiber, both of which can help keep a baby’s bowel movements regular. In addition, apples have high amounts of potassium, calcium and vitamins A, C and E. According to Wholesome Baby Food, you should introduce apples into your baby’s diet when the child is 6 to 8 months. Approximately 30 minutes is required to bake apples for a baby, not including time to peel, mash and cool them. Always consult with your pediatrician before changing your baby’s diet.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place three cored apples in a baking pan and add 3 inches of warm water. Do not peel the apples, as this will make them too mushy.

Bake the apples for 30 minutes or until they are tender when squeezed with a pair of tongs. Remove the apples from the oven.

Let the apples cool for five minutes and then peel away the skin using your fingers. The skin should come off the fruit when pinched.

Cut the apples up into baby-bite-size pieces. You can serve the cut-up apples as they are or mash them with the back of a fork until smooth.


The recipe yields about 2 cups of baked apples. If your baby is over 8 months, you can sprinkle the apples with cinnamon or add about 1/2 teaspoon of butter on the inside of the apple. To core an apple, use a specialty apple corer or a paring knife to remove the inedible inner portion. Refrigerate leftover baked apples immediately and serve them to your baby within two days.
