Ways to Drink Club Soda During Pregnancy
When alcohol, caffeine and the other beverages of your choice are out because of the danger they pose to your unborn baby -- or because you have developed a distaste for them -- consider taking a break from everyday water by substituting club soda. Pumping plain water with carbon dioxide is how club soda is made and it is a staple for many cocktails. There are a variety of ways to make club soda just as satisfying as the drinks that are now off limits.
Club Soda Smoothie
Club soda will add a little kick to your favorite fruit smoothie. Process the fruit of your choice in a blender or food processor -- with or without adding sugar -- but do not add any liquid, making a puree. Fill a glass halfway with the fruit puree, then pour cold club soda to fill the remaining space in the glass. Stir and enjoy.
If you are craving a margarita or mojito, or if you want to fit in at a party serving alcohol, make a non-alcoholic version with club soda. While grocery shopping, look for the cocktail section of the drinks aisle. There you will find a wide variety of non-alcoholic drink syrups and mixes. Pick your drink and follow the mixing directions on the bottle, substituting club soda for alcohol.
You can add flavor to plain club soda with your favorite fruit juice. Choose a 100 percent fruit juice and pour an equal amount of juice and club soda in a glass. Garnish it with a lemon, lime or other fruit slice and add ice. Club soda can also be mixed with powdered drink mixes to add some fizz.
To prevent your club soda from getting watered down by ice cubes, add a little twist. Cut pieces of your favorite fruit into chunks and place them into an ice tray in the freezer. After they're frozen, pop them into a glass of club soda to keep it cool and add a subtle flavor. When your soda is gone, you can snack on the fruit chunks.
